A stiff easterly breeze made for very challenging conditions, especially Sutton where all of the pairs delivered wins.
Michael O’Halloran and Brian Connell, in his debut for the club, got off to a flying start and were 4 up after 9. They closed the match out comfortably on the 14th .
The second match featured David Carson & Niall Kennedy up against a wily pair of campaigners. Sutton had a slim advantage for most of the match and clinched the win with a superb par on 17.
Danny Buckley & Barry Joyce were always in control of the final match and cantered to victory on the 15th .
The two away pairings who were up against some very experienced players, started strongly and were both up in early holes. However, local knowledge (particularly on the greens) eventually told and Roganstown won both points after some superb golf by all.
Overall, a very encouraging start to the campaign by a team featuring some newer faces, which augers well for the next round versus Balbriggan to be played before 23 rd May.
Sutton are seeking to win the Uden Cup for the first time since 2000, a team which featured a very young and promising golfer who would go on to achieve great things in the club.
