Mary McKenna V Black Bush Match Report
Jeanne Mahony, Manager
Sutton Diamonds win 5 from 5!
The first team match for the Sutton ladies took place last Monday 11th April. The Mary McKenna Diamond Trophy is one of the largest interclub competitions for senior lady golfers. The format is Scotch Foursomes with each team fielding five pairings and the First Round unusually having both a Home and Away match.
Drawn against our old Challenge Cup friends Black Bush, we were excited to get back in to the pink jumpers and start what we hope will be a long campaign! Two of our matches were won emphatically out the course by Kathleen Harbison & Noeleen Murphy and Mary Lennon & Marie Faller but the other three were closer affairs: Joan Kelly & Kathryn O’Hare battled all the way to the 18th while Ann Teeling and Mary Cole only got their noses in front on the 19th having played some beautiful golf in the closing holes. However, with the tummies rumbling and darkness falling, the last pairing of Elisabeth Guinan and Ita Slattery took us all the way down the 21st!
It was a fantastic effort by the whole team, sub Ann Horgan and all our supporters including LC Marie and LVC Mary. Looking forward now to 28th April in Black Bush where we only need one win to secure overall victory. No fear of complacency, however, we have a very experienced team and they know how difficult even one win can be….
