Sutton V Donabate, May 12th 2022.

Match Report

Michael O’Halloran, Fred Perry Manager 2022.

A fantastic 3-2 Win for Sutton in this closely fought match, played in windy conditions, with Home Pairings using their “local knowledge” to full advantage in both venues.

Home.
An early morning substitute Joe Comyn was drafted into the team to replace Conor Litchfield, who was ill. Joe and Brian Curtis led the way in Match 1 and eventually wore down their opponents to win 3 Up.

In the second match out, Tim Nyhan and Danny Buckley used their Munster “Stand Up and Fight” motivation to drive them to victory, with an excellent long range Lag Putt from Danny securing victory on the 17th hole.

In the final home match Mark Logan and the re-deployed Team Manager Michael O’Halloran, (A last minute substitute for the elusive/disappearing Larry White), were all square after 9 holes, but increased the tempo to win 4 Up on 15.

Away
The Donabate team were quite strong at home and produced a number of birdies to maintain pressure on the Sutton team.

In Match 1 Declan O’Callaghan and Cathal Saunders fought bravely before losing 2-Down to their opponents. David Carson and Mark Newman made a brave fight in the second match before falling to their opponents.

With three wins obtained at home, the team will face either Killeen Castle or Corballis Links in the next round, which is to be played before June 12th. Sutton will have three away matches in round 2.

Many thanks to all players, club officers and members who supported us on the day and in particular to David Jones, Asst Manager, who looked after affairs in Donabate.
